| Question: | "How does Holistic Bodywork differ from Massage Therapy?" |
| Answer: |
Holistic refers to the different levels - somatic, emotional, mental and spiritual - in which the vital energy of a person is experienced and transformed. Holistic Bodywork is a multi-modality, multi-dimensional, intuitive, integrative healing touch experience in which personal attention takes precedence over technique to initiate therapeutic shifts in feeling and perception. With traditional massage therapy, one generally feels relief from muscular tension and pain, increased range of motion and reduction of mental stress. With Holistic Bodywork, one can experience a profound sense of relief, renewed energy and balance, mind-body connections, metaphysical insights, wholeness, emotional well-being, and a "return to self" as well. |
| Question: |
"How often will I need treatments?" |
| Answer: |
Your body will let you know. Many people find several sessions in a row help address a specific issue or ease a challenging transitional period. Others make standing appointments such as weekly or monthly as proactive, preventative healthcare. Some have periodic or seasonal "tune-ups," while others treat themselves on their birthday or a special occasion. |
| Question: |
"How old does a person need to be to receive holistic bodywork?" |
| Answer: |
Any age. Holistic Bodywork is suitable for anyone from birth through palliative care, unless otherwise directed by their physican. |
| Question: |
"Which regions of my body will be touched?" |
| Answer: |
You and your practitioner will determine the intention for the session. This, along with any acute or chronic problems you are experiencing, will determine what areas of your body require attention. A typical full-body holistic bodywork session includes your back, neck, head, shoulders, abdomen, arms, legs, hands, feet and human energy field. |
| Question: |
"Will I experience any pain or soreness after holistic bodywork?" |
| Answer: |
Most people report feeling exceptionally relaxed, and in a blissful, altered state of relief & expansion, following their session. Those whose circumstances require a deep tissue or therapeutic massage, however, may experience mild muscle soreness for a day or two. Once this cleansing / shifting phase ends, people report a welcome reduction / elimination of any lingering pain / discomfort, and heightened energy. |
| Question: | "I'm not sure I'm comfortable with a stranger touching me." |
| Answer: |
It is not uncommon for first-time clients to be a bit apprehensive about the personal nature of holistic bodywork. Most people, however, find themselves very much at ease early on in the session. Healing touch practitioners are trained professionals who respect your feelings and personal space, and go out of their way to help you feel safe and comfortable. |
| Question: | "Will I have to take off all of my clothes?" |
| Answer: |
The key to receiving full therapeutic value of your holistic bodywork treatment is the ability to relax / surrender / let go. Therefore, the decision is yours. Ideally, healing touch is administered without the barrier of clothing. During the session, you'll be entirely covered with a sheet / blanket; only the area(s) being worked with at any given time will be uncovered. Before and after the session, you will undress and dress in complete privacy. If, however, you choose a focused Reiki / Vibrational Attunement, Craniosacral Unwinding, Polarity Balancing or Sensory Repatterning session, there will be no need to disrobe. Loose fitting clothing such as drawstring / sweat pants, and a tee shirt will be a perfect choice. |
